The movie When Worlds Collide poses the question of what you would do if you absolutely knew that everyone would die in eight months? The movie takes the assumption that a star and planet are coming this way and will destroy the earth, creating the biggest meteorite in earth's history (a meteorite is an asteroid that hits the earth). |

The original movie When Worlds Collide was make in 1951 with some of the best special effects ever made. It was directed by sci fi thriller Rudolph Mate who posed a threatening question about life on earth: in eight months it would be hit by a meteorite and earth would be wiped out completely. When Worlds Collide won an Oscar for best effects and Special effects. Stephen Spielberg is executive producing the 2006 version with Stephen Sommers directing (he directed Van Helsing and The Mummy). Stephen Somers is also writing the project and producing it, as well. He was originally one of the writers, but became more and more involved with the project as time went on. Bob Ducsay is the production partner of Stephen Sommers on When Worlds Collide and will probably get producer credits, too. Paramount is hoping to repeat the success of "War of the Worlds," the movie which Spielberg directed and which has made $588 million. When Worlds Collide, the movie, was originally a book, written in 1931 by Edwin Balmer and Philip Wylie. It featured astronomer Sven Bronson who discovers that two runaway planets would soon be entering the solar system and have a catastrophic impact on earth. Soon assisted by scientist Cole Hendron, they work desperately to build ships to escape to some other planet in an attempt to save the human race.Paramount is making the movie as "tentpole" project, and expects it to be very successful. The new version to be
produced by Stephen Spielberg is in collaboration with Paramount and Dream
Works. Spielberg’s version of the movie is expected to be on similar
lines. It revolves around a group of scientists who are predicting an
oncoming collision between earth and a planet that is on the course to
pass close enough to earth, thereby bringing catastrophic tragedy on land
and sea. This will soon be followed by a second one which will hit the earth directly that is sure to wipe out the
earth. Despite the lack of approval by the government, they soon build
rocket so that a few selected individuals can escape to escape these
unwanted intruders. An interesting outcome is the same scientist who
helped built the space ship is left behind as well the financier, and
those selected few reaches Zyra. Spielberg is sure to add certain twists
and portray another amazing storyline that will keep the audience on the
edge of their seat. He is definitely making the audience question about
these marauding meteorites, as well the nature of human beings.
